Ho-Chunk, formerly known as Winnebago mother figure carrying a "papoose" (a term historically used for a child or infant in a cradleboard). Winnebago the English name for the Ho-Chunk Nation, a Native American tribe from the Great Lakes region. These dolls are part of a broader category of mid-20th-century "Indian" souvenir dolls, often produced as cultural representations (sometimes stereotypical) for tourists. They typically depict a mother in traditional attire with a bundled baby in a cradleboard on her back.
