Yup'ik (Yupik) lidded baskets are traditional coiled grass baskets made by Yup'ik women in southwestern Alaska (primarily the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta region). They are often called mingqaaq (meaning something like "sewn" or coiled basket) and became popular as a market/souvenir art form in the late 19th/early 20th century, encouraged by missionaries and traders.
