Pernell Laate (d. 2008) was a skilled Zuni carver from the Laate family, known for delicate, detailed work in antler and fossilized ivory, especially birds, human figures, and other animals. He began carving in the mid-1980s (alongside his brother Max/Maxx Pernell/Laate) and signed pieces “P. Laate.” Examples of his antler bird carvings (such as perched eagles) appear in auction records and collections.
