Zuni fetish carving (or occasionally a small pottery figure) of a turtle made from black materials such as jet, black marble, or polished black clay, produced by artists of the Zuni Pueblo in New Mexico.  The turtle is widely regarded as one of the oldest symbols of Mother Earth.
