The Zuni Pueblo Dinosaur Fetish carvings associated with the "Halatte" family name are iconic folk-art collectibles created by the legendary late Zuni carver Janine Fenton "Old Man" Leonard Halate (often spelled Halate or Halatte). Leonard Halate (who passed away in 2001) was a highly revered, eccentric Zuni Pueblo carver who began producing carvings in the mid-20th century. He is celebrated for a distinct, whimsical "folk-art" style. Known to rarely speak, Halate expressed his inner world entirely through his craft. Because he lived completely immersed in his art, original pieces completed before his death are considered rare Zuni treasures
