Tonia Fontenelle is a contemporary Zuni (A:shiwi) potter from Zuni Pueblo in western New Mexico. Zuni artists are renowned for their intricate pottery, though the pueblo is more famous for jewelry and fetishes—pottery remains an important traditional art form. Her work is handcrafted using traditional methods, often featuring polychrome (multi-color) designs with motifs like deer (including heartline deer), dragonflies, and other classic Zuni patterns painted in black, red, and other natural pigments on a white or light slip.
