A Zuni Horn Priest fetish (also referred to as a Bow Priest fetish) is a rare and sacred carving from the Zuni Pueblo in New Mexico. Unlike more common animal carvings, these figures represent high-ranking religious officials within the Zuni social and spiritual hierarchy, specifically the Bow Priesthood.
Traditionally crafted from elk antler or mountain sheep horn. The natural curve and texture of the antler are often used to define the figure's form. These fetishes typically feature human-like (anthropomorphic) forms. They often include turquoise inlays for eyes or mouths and are adorned with ritual "bundles" containing mother-of-pearl, coral, or feathers. They symbolize spiritual power, leadership, and protection. In Zuni belief, the Bow Priests are guardians of the people and defenders of the faith.
