Alex Poncho is a contemporary Zuni Pueblo (A:shiwi) fetish carver known for small, detailed stone animal carvings, including turtles. zarteam.org His works appear in galleries specializing in Zuni art, such as the Zuni Artist Resource Team (ZART / zarteam.org) in Gallup, New Mexico, and others like Zuni Fetish Gallery and Keshi. He carves a range of subjects (turtles, frogs, snakes, birds, ravens, seahorses, etc.) from materials including serpentine, Picasso marble, travertine, jet, catlinite/pipestone, and malachite, often with turquoise or other inlays for eyes or accents.
